把時間排出來
To pencil someone in
在日常工作場合中，我們常需要跟別人排定時間碰面、開會、出差，甚至是看病、上瑜珈健身課等等，英文裡除了可以說”make an appointment with someone （跟某人有約）”之外，其實還有更口語的簡單用法”pencil someone in（用鉛筆把某人寫進來）”，也就是把時間排出來給某人的意思。
當然，這句話並不代表真的一定是用鉛筆才能記錄下來，而是用「鉛筆（pencil）」來表示「紀錄（write down）」的意思。
Tiffany：Linda Scott’s office, how many I help you?
Tiffany：Linda Scott辦公室，有什麼可以幫忙的嗎？
Tim：Hey, Tracy. It’s Tim Jensen here. Is Linda around at the office?
Tim：嘿，Tracy。我是Tim Jensen。Linda在辦公室嗎？
Tiffany：Good morning, Mr. Jensen. Linda is on a conference call at the moment. Can I take your message?
Tiffany：早安，Jensen先生。Linda現在正在電話會議中。需要留言嗎？
Tim：I’m just calling to see when she’s available for a meet. I need to go through some budgeting stuff with her the sooner the better.
Tim：我打來是要問她什麼時候有空碰面。有些預算方面的問題我須要跟她一起討論，而且要越快越好。
Tiffany：I understand. Let me have a look at her schedule first. She’s quite tied up the whole week.
Tiffany：我知道了。讓我先看一下她的行事曆。這禮拜她都很忙欸。
Tim：How about early next week?
Tim：那下週初呢？
Tiffany：Next Wednesday morning between 10-12 looks fine so far.
Tiffany：目前看來下週三早上10～12點之間應該可以。
Tim：It sounds fine with me. Let’s say 10AM next Wednesday at your office?
Tim：聽起來我也沒問題。那就下週三早上10點在你們辦公室可以嗎？
Tiffany：No problem. I’ll pencil you in for 10AM next Wednesday at our London room?
Tiffany：沒問題。我就把下週三早上10點排給您，地點是在我們的倫敦會議室。
Tim：Is Copenhagen available at that time. I prefer to use that room since it’s got the projector set up already.
Tim：哥本哈根會議室那時候有人用嗎？我比較喜歡那一間，因為投影機已經架設好了。
Tiffany：Sure, I’ll book that room for you. Thanks for calling. Have a nice day!
Tiffany：當然。我會先幫您把那間會議室訂下來。謝謝您的來電。祝您有個愉快的一天。
